Pain – thymol numbs pain (analgesic), toothache, headache, arthritis, sore muscles, sore throat
Gi – eases heartburn (lowers acidity), belching, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea (best roasted seeds steeped in hot H2O)
Respiratory – Asthma – bronchodilator (theophylline), cough (more effective than codeine), calming contraction
Antibacterial – including Salmonella, wounds, throat and mouth infections (gargle)
It lowers blood pressure. Ajowan has anti-fungal properties.
It is great to use when cooking legumes because it prevents flatulence. Great to use in bread, vegetables, relishes, pickles.
It is used as a deodorant, mouth wash, toothpaste additive.
